Normal is in the eye of the beholder…
The last thing Mabel McCoy ever wanted was to end up back in Normal, South Dakota. But when she’s fired from her job as an FBI analyst, and no other law enforcement agency will touch her with a ten-foot pole, she has no choice but to go home.
Little does she know that the minute she drives into Normal a hornet’s nest awaits her. Things are done differently in Normal, so no one seems overly concerned that she was elected sheriff without her knowledge or participation. Apparently, Normal hasn’t had a lot of luck keeping the position filled.
When one of Normal’s citizens is found with her throat slit, Mabel realizes she’s in way over her head. She’s never even seen a dead body before. But that doesn’t mean she wants to let the FBI take over her investigation. She has an axe to grind with her former employer, and the special agent in charge rubs her in all the wrong ways.
FBI Agent Matt Savage hates Normal, and it’s not the job he was expecting when he was reassigned to the middle of nowhere. But as much as he’s loathe to admit it, it’s been a nice change of pace, especially since he took a bullet in the chest barely a month before.
His expectations for excitement are low, but then he meets Sheriff Mabel McCoy and he decides maybe Normal isn’t so bad after all. She’s smart…really smart…and as fiery as the hair on her head. If only he could figure out why she seems to hate him at first sight. Surely it’s not because of his socks.
