Blanche Berwyn, if found living, would become the heiress to Thorncombe Manor and all of its holdings. But Blanche’s father George, having been estranged from Lord Thorncombe upon marrying without consent, died abroad many years ago, and little evidence exists now to remotely suggest the whereabouts of Blanche, or whether she survives.
Written by Mrs. Harriet Newell (O'Brien) Lewis (1841-1878) with illustrations by F. A. Carter.
Published also in serial form as “Blanche Berwyn;” or “The Heiress of Thorncombe Manor.” Copyright 1875 and 1891 by Robert Bonner’s Sons.
Transcribed and edited by Jeffrey Merrow from the 1891 New York edition.
