The Warning Bell is a piece of Historical Mashup Fiction, an historical "What if?", taking a true event in Chinese history and infusing it with zombies. Set during the tumultuous Taiping Rebellion, it is a short story about love and regret ... and zombies.
Inspired by Seth Grahame-Smith, I wanted to add an element of the supernatural into a known period of history, in a way that feels both natural and plausible. The Warning Bell isn't about the Taiping Revolution, it's about the common people who got caught up in it. Every movement, whether it's political of zombie (or both), has the potential to change our lives, in ways big and small.
Step into this one moment, in this one man's life, and ask yourself: "What if?"
