Growing up, knowing there was a possibility that she would inherit her family’s rare, genetic disease, Alyssa was still caught by surprise by her diagnosis when she was 14. Alyssa was diagnosed with Gardner’s Syndrome shortly before starting her freshman year of high school. Her family’s goal was to have her graduate from high school before needing a major surgery that would prevent colon cancer. Since 2006 Alyssa’s disease has been in remission.

Gardner's Syndrome may be in her genes, but Alyssa chooses to go against the tide and fight back. She talks about how her faith, family, friends, and experiences have helped her overcome the challenges that she has faced from having this disease. Alyssa hopes her story will encourage others to find meaning from the challenges they have faced within their lives. She believes that once meaning can be found within the challenges you have faced, you have overcome them.

Alyssa knows what her disease is physically capable of. But she also knows what it cannot do. It will never harm her mind or her heart. Her experiences may change her perspective. But Gardner’s Syndrome will never take away her ability to love, overcome, or live life to its fullest.

A portion of the proceeds from this book will go to various organizations that have helped Alyssa and her family throughout the years.
