A stranger tries to move the oldest chair in the pub - and is rewarded with a story...

A princess asks a difficult question and flies a kite...

A woman sings stars out of the sky...

Three stories, echoing traditional forms, that were originally created via oral performance. Written down now partly in pursuit of my long-term fascination with the relationship between spoken and written words, but mainly in the hopes of finding a wider audience. If you enjoy the stories, please feel free to put them back into spoken words and tell them yourself. Pass it on....

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I'm a performance storyteller (founder member  of 'Wing and a Prayer' and 'Word in Edgeways' storytelling companies), digital artist, animator & video maker.

As a child of 8 I can remember being absolutely transfixed when a student teacher read us chunks of Beowulf (translating from Anglo-Saxon as she went along) and told us the rest of the tale. I wrote my own version of the story (pages and pages of it), retelling it from the point of view of Grendel's mother.

I've never lost that love of the old stories, and these days I'm particularly interested in the relationship between language (oral or written) and the mental and emotional images the words conjour up.
