Beth Frye, and her twin brother Teddy, enter high school with different ideas about how to get along: she drinks and he picks up the pieces.

Sensitive and high-strung, Beth is a gifted pianist with a streak of perfectionism that breeds drama.  High school intensifies her social anxiety and fear of never measuring up. She discovers vodka and starts drinking for the confidence it gives her. Beth rapidly loses control of her school work, her social life, and even her music, while Teddy struggles to rescue her from herself.

Beth finally enters treatment and the family begins to heal. Then someone breaks into their home and attacks one of the twins. This tragedy results in a commitment to recovery and the hope of a new life for Beth, a life of family, friends, and a promising music career.
