After escaping the barbarian Princess Shocara, Rasten returns to the capital to resume his effort to better outwit the barbarians. His capture had been the result of the Elvin being betrayed by someone unknown, and finding the traitor seemed less easy than expected. Led by the Princess Shocara, the barbarians were innovating and plaguing the elves handily, as they have never done before.
As if this wasn’t enough, Rasten’s emerging sight lets him discover that thousands of Coumaderini, the changelings, whom were thought to be extinct, were living among the Elvin, appearing perfectly to all others as elves. Why? Even more shocking dozens of them were hidden among the servants of the Palace, even attending Rasten and Amein in their private rooms!
Desperate to somehow convince Shocara that the Elvin are sincere in wanting peace, and an end to the ancient wars, Rasten makes several efforts to speak with her or to capture her with mixed results. Shocara’s desire for Rasten, her effort to hold to her position and her growing understanding that perhaps the Elvin are honest all war within her, and make her miserable, but no less stubborn!
The plot gets more complex, but no less sexy, and will conclude in the final book, To Claim the Elvin Princess: Prince
