Saki was the pen name of Hector Hugh Munro (1870-1916) — a British writer who began his liteary career working as a journalist. Eventually he used this experience to write short-stories, which often satirised the life during the Edwardian Era. He also wrote a romantic comedy play 'The Watched Pot' in collaboration with Charles Maude. In general, Munro's writing style usually feauters black humor, and some macabre elements. When the First World War broke out Munro enlisted as a volunteer and in 1916 during the Battle Of The Somme he was shot by a sniper. 'Tobermory' is a short story about a man who knows how to teach animals speaking human language. A fascinating idea indeed! But it's not that simple as it seems at first sight… So, ladies and gentlemen are gathered for the show and the host's cat Tobermory is chosen to be the first object of the strange experiment. Well, now he can talk, allright, but the problem is that he talks about things our noble guests would prefer not to hear… How will the strange experiment end? Read this brilliant short-story and you will know!
