Pair 2, Book 2: Mines
Time: 210 years in the future
POV characters: Ambrena, Rusty, and Corandra

Klapit, an empty mine of the ancestors, has been abandoned as empty. Only scraps remained. The new Shelpit, discovered by Rusty, seems to be nearly empty after less than a gen. Rusty fears for her future, with no family ties to the villa of Shells, or any of the surrounding community. Promotion to dig leader isn't a future, if there isn't anything left to recover from the mine. She gives her last working dig tool to Corandra.
Corandra scowls as always. With the last tool, she digs up a box in a forbidden area beyond the mine. The box spreads a devastating illness, which Corandra feels responsible for. No one moves fast enough to find a cure for her mistake. She leaves the villa of Shells, to find a cure, and a place where the curse of her ancestors will be removed.
Meanwhile, Ambrena and Rusty try to protective villa of Shells. Ambrena fears that Tanna's daughters will replace her, displacing her to no room in the already overcrowded villa. Her fears feel true when she and Rusty are sent to find the missing mother of Corandra, and Zella's sister in hopes of a cure. Surely, such an errand beyond the known lands is plans for banishment of the two newly second gen women.
