The book begins in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. John and Jay are on vacation horse packing through the mountains of the Sangre De Cristo's in the southern portion of the Rocky Mountains. The second day into their trip they come across a mutilated animal and the end of their peaceful vacation. What awaits them is a horrifying creature with a lust for revenge and terror. They continue on their trip and as they progress they run across other victims.

In a valley in the mountains three of the survivors make contact with extraterrestrials… Who impart to them eight books which contain information on technology that will propel the human race hundreds of years ahead. These books contain cures to ailments that plague our world, advance our abilities to travel, defend ourselves, and increase our life span.

The Extraterrestrials' from deep in our Galaxy inform them of a Nomadic race that is moving toward our Galaxy conquering and enslaving other planets along the way. This race and others in our Galaxy have lost the fighting edge. We are their last hope.

The story describes the trials and tribulations dealing with the political powers that want control of the technology, how they avoid them, what they learn in the process, where they end up, and the road they take in the hopes of saving the human race.
