Charles Godfrey Leland (1824-1903) was an American writer working in the genres humour and satire and collecting folklore. He studied American and European traditions and travelled a lot while working as a journalist. Leland became famous for his comic book 'Hans Breitman's Ballads'.

This is an old Indian legend collected and retold by Charles Leland. The story tells us of a fisherman who lives on the sea-shore with his family. But one day a storm comes and no fish can be caught so the younger son has to go father to look for it… and meets the Wind-Bird - the god of the storm.
