These meditations are uncommon because in them the Lord’s Prayer is not just a pious prayer for Jesus. It is his mission creed, his Kingdom manifesto.
These meditations are uncommon because they presume Jesus was not born to be crucified but to usher in God’s kingdom on earth. The crucifixion was a defeat not a victory.
These meditations are uncommon because they presume Jesus was not sent to satisfy the wrath of God but to satisfy the love of God by treating the least as if they were Jesus, and commanding his followers to do the same. How else could planet earth become the kingdom of the love of God?
These meditations are uncommon because bible passages are not cited as proof texts, a disastrous tradition which has divided Christianity, but as texts which have inspired me in my spiritual journey.
These meditations are uncommon because they are not about guilt. Written in light of the Lord’s Prayer, they are about forgiving one another our trespasses against the kingdom ministry of Jesus.
These meditations are most uncommon because in them Jesus makes the nations an offer they cannot refuse: treat the least as if they were me or there will be hell to pay. (Matthew 25: 31-46) He got that right!
Whenever my Mom was about to serve a meal she had never before prepared, she would say, “You’re going to love this meal!” It is in that spirit I suggest you read this book.
Although baptized under the false pretenses of Satan's ransom demands, Adam's original sin, and God's terrible wrath, the ritual of baptism enrolled me in a community of faith in Jesus, and for that, I will be forever grateful. I do not count my Catholic upbringing as a wasteland.
