Under The Skin is a collection of dark and witty poems brought together because they attempt get underneath the banality of everyday life, looking for clues in human nature as to what drives our multi-dimensional behaviour. Observational life hack poetry for the challenges thrown at us.
Ian Banks, one of my favourite authors, wrote the Wasp Factory in just a week. It stands out as a narrative style for using in the first person as a vehicle to open new ways of seeing into alternative realities. Many of my short creative pieces of writing are in character and non-biographical. A few are personal and I’m happy to openly share these.
As with so many authors, I often draw from life experiences and put myself in abstract circumstances to create richer three-dimensional voices. I like to challenge the reader, so that you may not always feel obliged to like the voice I choose to inhibit. I hope to draw you into a sense of place and persona for the few moments you are immersed in reading and digesting the page.
