This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Holiness are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore seven topics, from different verses in the book of Leviticus. They are: When a leader sins; Do not defile yourself; Consecrate yourself; Cleansing; Spiritual washing; Purity; Separated to God.
Excerpts:
When a leader sins
“Peter said that as new born babes we should desire the sincere milk of the word that we may grow thereby (1Peter 2:2). In pursuit of spiritual growth we move in the direction of God and we move away from the works of the flesh. Paul wrote that we should walk in the spirit so that we would not fulfil the works of the flesh (Galatians 16, 25). He advocated that we put on the whole armour of God, and one of which is the shield of faith that we use to quench the fiery dart of the Satan’s temptation (Ephesians 6:16).”
Do not defile yourself
“In a difficult situation that King Saul faced, when the Philistines amassed against the army of Israel, He went to a necromancer, asking her to bring Prophet Samuel from the dead for him to know what to do, since God had forsaken him. Consulting with any alternative spirit to the spirit of God, leads to defilement of spirit. That is an example of defilement of the spirit.”
Consecrate yourself
“You need to consecrate yourself in holiness (an adjunct of grace [Titus 2:11-15]) and truth. Many take the pain to consecrate themselves in one aspect of two. They may emphasise truth, the accumulation of it, while some may overly emphasises holiness, to the negligent of truth. What is needed is a balance, so that we will ensure that we be like Jesus in grace and truth, not one of it to the negligence of another.”
Cleansing
“Because he is the Spirit of truth he brings us into more and more depths of the truth of God (John 16:13). Truth is also about what we see. When God called Jeremiah to the prophetic role, he asked him, what do you see, and he said I see the branch of an almond tree (Jeremiah 1:11-12), and God said to him you see well. His eyes were cleansed to see into the realm of the spirit, cleansed from the limitation of the flesh.”
Spiritual washing
“On a daily basis we can receive the grace to walk with God (Hebrews 4:16) in his peace, joy, because the kingdom of God is righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:16). The kingdom is lived setting our eyes on the things of heaven and not on things on the earth. As we walk with God, move in his power, we are cleansed from powerlessness, and spiritual impotence, to carry the power of God to our generation.”
Purity
“A way to do that is by speaking in tongues regularly for an extended period of time. We can also receive an infusion of the Spirit by extensive reading and study of the scriptures. The bible says that the words of the scriptures are God-breathed (2Timothy 3:16); they are inspired by the Holy Spirit. And the Spirit of God is the breath of God because the wind is a symbol of the Holy Spirit (John 3:8).”
Separated to God
“When we do not spend time with God, we will not get to know him as we should. In the presence of God we should not hurry. In that place we are tuned to hear his words and programmed to be like him. The bible says that in the presence of God there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:9). In his presence we experience fullness.”
