When Lyra, bastard sister to the king of Ravenhold, received a mission from her brother to help stop a war between their kingdom and Silverwind, the nation bordering theirs, she didn't hesitate. She remembered how many had died the last time their kingdoms fought against one another, and she wanted to avoid the death another battle would bring.

She wasn't exactly pleased about having to work with the other kingdom's princess though, and it wasn't just because she was an enemy. Silverwind's royal family, and most of its nobility, were made of vampires, and monsters like these could be very dangerous.

Not that Lyra had ever met a vampire, that she knew of at least, but all the stories said so, didn't they? Though she knew better than to trust stories, not when there were plenty of them about her. It wasn't her fault that she was born different from other women, that she was cursed with a certain condition…

Despite it all, she was willing to work with Princess Wilhelmina for the good of their kingdoms, she was willing to behave as the knight she was and do the right thing.

If only the princess wasn't so beautiful it hurt to look away from her.
