On Sunday, April 28, 1793, the earth split Mount Serpente on the inland island of St. Silvus down the center, flinging the guardian White Furies into the heavens and releasing the black ship of the reptilian Schlange—the Snake—and its crew of satyrs, to sail out on the lava flow into the world in search of young, perfectly formed men to overpower and defile. The cream of manhood is needed by the Schlange to keep it rejuvenated. The searching White Furies quickly responded, forcing the monster to try to shoot the sea’s entrance into the larger hunting field of the greater ocean. For this purpose, as well as to satisfy its other appetites, the Schlange needed to capture and enslave the magnificent young A’zam, the navigator prince of the Ottoman Empire.

This was neither the first nor the last visit by the Schlange and his satyr assistants to the surface of the earth. The Schlange was there at the original beginning and is there today in the old sewers of New York City—or maybe lurking below the surface elsewhere. But the world is not prepared to recognize the existence of the Schlange and the monster’s threat to the cream of the world’s young men. Mankind down through the ages has found plausible explanations for the Schlange’s devastating appearances and, when these can’t be plausibly explained, has pushed any thought of them out beyond the realm of speculation and legend.

Some have remembered, though. Here and there have been preserved snippets of terrible, but bravely observed, reports of the reptilian green-scaled super human creature and his band of satyrs. As a call for the world to wake and arm, these testimonies are captured in this chronologically arranged anthology.

This is an expanded relaunch of the eXcessica novella, Bite of the Schlange.
