‘But there can’t be creepy blue guys visiting Whitlam Station, because there’s no such thing as creepy blue guys.’

The world is poisoned. Humans have damaged and neglected the environment for too long and now the world has changed. The seas have warmed and risen, flooding cities, swallowing the land. People have been washed away from their homes.

Trin is part of a team of a science team that defy the dangers of the ferocious seas at the new coastline to investigate the damage and find ways to help heal the oceans. But now, each time she touches the water, Trin can feel what the creatures that live below the surface feel, and she knows what they know. How can this be possible? Has the poisoned sea made her sick or is she going crazy? Now she can hear voices that whisper warnings and she feels eyes upon her, watching her from somewhere out on the stormy sea.

Rilla has lived deep in the ocean all her life, in the hidden city of Lemuria. She has challenged her father’s rulings and travelled up to see the extraordinary world above the surface. She has made her decision. She will take the catalyst that can transform her body so that she can ascend. She will leave the underwater world of the Abrax forever. Once she has become a walker, she can share her knowledge with them and help heal Mother Ocean.

When two strangers claiming to be researchers arrive on the high tide, Trin’s mysterious second-sight lets her briefly glimpse through their psychic illusions and for a moment see them for the strange creatures that they really are. How can she make the others believe her? Or was it all just in her mind?

The voice from the sea warns that the danger is real. When the strangers act on their true intentions, Trin is at their mercy and Rilla will finally have to share the secrets about her origin to save her. On that day their lives will change forever. Their fates will be intertwined in the place between two worlds.
