Sam August loves to sit at Joe Lee’s bar on the channel between Clear Lake and the Gulf of Mexico on Saturdays watching sailboats heading out for a day of fun on the Gulf. He was having a beer and kibitzing with his favorite waitress, Suzzi, when the bar phone rang. She answered, then with a puzzled look, asked Sam if he was a cop. This surprised Sam for no one there knew he was a cop; he was just plain ol’ fun loving Sammy. She said some cop by the name of Halstead wanted to talk to Detective Sam August. Multiple murders on Rimrock Road, his boss said, right up Sammy’s alley. Four dead bodies; two guys who worked at the NASA space center, one unknown female, and one unknown guy. Detective Sam August soon found himself embroiled in a complex web of double-dealing, sex, computer chips, and murder. Suspects included a wealthy millionaire industrialist, his young wife, her lover, a substitute wife, a wheeler-dealer sailor with no visible means of income, an Asian crime gang, a hot-shot FBI agent, a crooked lawyer out to feather his nest at all cost – and helping Sammy is his old retired partner, William F. “Bill” Bailey.
