What Kind of Man... has been nominated for Global eBook Awards in the category Sci Fi- Fantasy Paranormal/Fantasy Supernatural
PREPOSTEROUS, NUTTY and ENTERTAINING--
Franklin Pierce, fourteenth president of the United States, is perhaps the least-understood American president. What Kind of Man... takes a look at his life as it was historically, and it also takes a small peek at what his life could be, considering his brains and ability. This book is as preposterous as it is entertaining. It is filled with a humor that is generated by a century-gap when he is allowed to return to "terra firma," humor that is emphasized by his tendency to orate at inappropriate times, by his use of frilly, formal language and his incomprehension of modern conveniences. We also have the privilege of being witness to the deep bond of friendship he has with Nathaniel Hawthorne and how their lives influenced one another's for the good. We cannot help but start to like the guy and feel a deep empathy for him as we realize he was often so pitifully trapped by his circumstances. A string of unbelievable adventures occur when Franklin Pierce tries to assert himself into the twenty-first century with the help and support of his soulmate, Sally Weare. He takes her to a ball in the 19th Century to meet his friends. They must outsmart terrorists on a train to Washington. They take part in a Wagon Train re-enactment with nail-biting consequences. They go on a quest for the bones of Peking Man. Their last adventure is the most unbelievable and heart-warming of all. Franklin always cognizant of his need to travel incognito is wary of the consequences for all if he is found out. What Kind of Man... is very much a different kind of ghost story.
