This small collection of feminist poetry explores the evolution of the author’s spirit and authentic voice as she travels through varying levels of existence. The autobiographical verse is interspersed with contemplative pieces exploring the female experience in modern society, as well as its symbolic representation in the natural world, combine to plot a defined purpose and path of self-discovery. Elements of violence and abuse, subjugation, loss, denial, and finally a realization of worth help readers both identify and empathize with the author and the sisterhood of women as a whole, understanding the similarity of existence they all share. Broken into three sections: Child, Woman, and Soul, the book strives to not only document the author’s life as captured in poetic works, but also to demonstrate the tenacity and strength of the feminine spirit to survive, and ultimately overcome whatever obstacles block her path to enlightenment and her ultimate emergence into her true self.
