In the last two hundred years, the United States has made more progress than any other nation in terms of ingenuity, technology and innovation. The United States invented and fostered great bridges of communication and brought to surface the most inherent tools needed to undergo the process globalization. The twentieth century introduced telephone communication. Over time, the development of technology has strived to make things cheaper and more efficient, but it has had the adverse effect because while calls are certainly cheaper, the phones themselves are more expensive. "In 1930 the cost of a telephone call between New York to London was (in 1990 dollars) $245 for three minutes. By 1998, the same call cost 35 cents- a vast reduction in the cost of communications." (Clarke & Edwards 195) Inarguably, without the existence of a strong communication network such as the internet and telephone communication, globalization could not be as 'efficient' today since international communication would be more difficult to achieve throughout the antipodes.
