A Book Of Saints And Wonders
by Lady Gregory
A Book of Saints and Wonders by Lady Augusta Gregory contains chapters on the doings and lives of Saints Brigit, Columcille, Patrick, and Brendan the Navigator (who voyaged to the Promised Land). The last two chapters are more mythical. One recounts the fabulous voyage of Maeldune and another amply justifies its title, Great Wonders of the Old Time.
About the Author:
“Isabella Augusta, Lady Gregory (15 March 1852–22 May 1932), née Isabella Augusta Persse, was an Irish dramatist and folklorist. With William Butler Yeats and others, she co-founded the Irish Literary Theatre and the Abbey Theatre, and wrote numerous short works for both companies. Lady Gregory produced several books of retellings of stories extracted from Irish mythology. Born in to a class that identified closely with British rule, her conversion to cultural nationalism, as evidenced by her writings, was emblematic of many of the changes to occur in Ireland during her lifetime.”
Table of Content:
Book I : Brigit, The Mary Of The Gael
Book II : Columcille, The Friend Of The Angels Of God
Book III : Blessed Patrick Of The Bells
Book IV : The Voyage Of Maeldune
Book V : Great Wonders Of The Olden Time
Book VI : The Voyage Of Brendan
