Robert Gerard is a cyclist in Jacksonville, Florida with roid rage. One day he kicks the side panel of an expensive car belonging to a woman. Unfortunately for Robert this is no ordinary woman. Seconds later he is sailing through the air looking at trees underneath him. He lands hard and his bicycle hits the ground two seconds after he does.

Robert has been thrown into another world by a female magician and he finds himself being chased by humanoid creatures with red hair and sharp teeth. Although he is still technically in Florida, this is a world with a medieval level of technology where humans and the red haired creatures live side by side.

The red haired creatures chase him with the intention of eating him until he is "rescued" by the Lady Mary who is the sister of the female magician. To avoid being eaten he must agree to be the servant of the Lady Mary.

As Robert adjusts to his new world he discovers that the Lady Mary has an advanced knowledge of physics and he begins to wonder if what is described as magic is actually an advanced type of science. He is aware of the statement made by Arthur C. Clark that once science becomes advanced enough then it will be indistinguishable from magic.

Robert is sentenced to appear for trial by the Council of Magicians after he switches his iphone on, and it detects multiple wireless networks in what should be a medieval world. He learns that the Lady Mary's ancestors came to this world 15,000 years ago to escape a Great Flood that destroyed their civilization.

As Robert travels with the Lady Mary, her associate Duncan, and one of the red haired creatures called Daphne, he is given a chance to save the Lady Mary from extreme danger. What happens will depend on how Robert reacts. Although he came to this new world as a selfish individual, the new world is changing him. It is possible that the Council of Magicians will sentence him to death, and if he saves the lady Mary that will be a point in his favor.

The Great Magician hovers in the sky 240,000 miles from the Earth watching, waiting and observing. All magic in this world is run by the Great Magician. It has been in orbit around the Moon since the Lady Mary's ancestors came to this world 15,000 years ago.
