Washington Irving is a famous American author, essayist, biographer, historian, and diplomat of the early 19th century. His historical works include biographies of George Washington, Oliver Goldsmith, and several other histories of 15th-century Spain dealing with subjects such as Christopher Columbus, the Moors and the Alhambra. "Travelers' tales" were published after the author's one-year stay in Europe. This collection of short stories and essays, is considered one of the major works in the literary career of Irving. In one of these stories "Buckthorne and his friends - a literature dinner" the author describes a brief conversation between people who thought about themselves as a truly magnificent masters in a literature world, but unfortunately the author experienced a strong disappointing issue in the conversation between them.
