The story “The Boarded Window” is told by an author, who remembers the old myth which he heard from his grandfather. It is about the old house with boarded window. In 1830, only a few miles away from what is now the great city of Cincinnati, lay an immense and almost unbroken forest. It was settled by very poor people who were fighting with forest to grab some more space for their farms from it. Also there lived a young man who was called Murlock. He lived in a very small cabin with his wife. One day he went gunning and when he came back he found dead because of fever. He was in such a huge shock that he didn’t know what to do and he was just sitting and combing her hair, wishing her to be alive. But suddenly he heard something. First it was just a rustle, then quiet steps and after that the table was overthrown on him. He found a rifle on the wall and shot in the whole darkness and in the light of a shot he saw the panther that tried to pull out his wife’s body out of window. The beast ran away from his cabin in fear but when he looked at his wife’s body again he saw a real strange thing.
