Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology, best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales.
“Trittil, Littil, and the Birds” is Hungarian fairy tale which Andrew Lang included into The Crimson Fairy Book. The storyline focuses on three brothers of the peasant couple which were destined to search for a king's beautiful daughter vanished without a trace. Moreover the king promised that whoever returned with her could marry her. Two brothers agreed to take their chances of rescuing the princess but were killed and only the youngest one had enough power and courage to rescue the princess.
