È una breve storia delle periferie di Roma nella seconda metà del novecento, affrontata in due sezioni dove i testi di Stefano D’Amico e Francesco Sirleto sono accompagnati dalle fotografie di Rodrigo Pais. La prima sezione è dedicata allo sviluppo edilizio che, in particolare negli anni ’60 e ’70, ha permesso tra l’altro a migliaia di persone l’abbandono delle baracche dove vivevano in condizioni disastrose. L’arrivo nelle nuove abitazioni non è stato però un processo indolore, ma il frutto di anni di lotte per il diritto alla casa che vengono raccontate nella seconda sezione. In una terza sezione è invece il testo di Franco Ferrarotti che accompagna le fotografie di Pais che illustrano le condizioni di vita nelle borgate e nei borghetti dove il sociologo svolse le sue prime ricerche sulla povertà e dove lui stesso era presente con la macchina fotografica. It is a brief history of the suburbs of Rome during the second half of the twentieth century, addressed in two sections, where the texts of Stefano d’Amico and Francesco Sirleto are accompanied by photographs of Rodrigo Pais. The first section is dedicated to the building development, particularly in the 60’s and 70’s, which allowed, among other things, to thousands of people abandoning the barracks where they lived in very dreadful conditions. Obtain this new housing was definitely not a painless process, but the fruit of years of struggle for the housing right, that are told in the second section. In a third section the text of Franco Ferrarotti accompanies the photographs of Rodrigo Pais, which illustrate the living conditions in the townships and hamlets, where the sociologist conducted his early research on poverty and where he himself was present with his camera.
