"There must be more than this!" Perhaps you’ve been where I was. Perhaps you are there still—wondering if there really could be more to this whole Christian lifestyle than the endless cycle of church, small groups, committee meetings and social events … if that’s all that could be expected from the victorious Christian life that I’d heard so much about all of my life, then I was dissatisfied. I hungered for the type of relationship with God that I believed others had; the type of relationship where I could sit down over a cup of tea or coffee and have deep and meaningful conversations about all the things I’ve struggled with in my life. I longed for the type of relationship in which I’d know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I could hear His voice. Audibly. I wanted a flesh and blood relationship with a flesh and blood Jesus that I could see, hear, touch and discern with my physical senses. I wanted a relationship in which there was no questioning His reality, and no questioning the validity of the connection and rapport I had with Him. I just didn’t know how to have that kind of relationship with Him, and at the time I was not even convinced that He was that interested in having any kind of relationship with me. The fact is, He created us to have that kind of relationship with Him. Most of us just don’t have the first clue as to how that is supposed to look. We follow the rules set in place by the established Church and wonder why it doesn’t lead to the kind of heartfelt connection that we long for from our Creator. There is a part of us that is deeply asleep—that part of us that was designed to interact with Him on a daily basis—and the sad thing is that we don’t even know what we are missing out on. We aren’t even aware that this kind of relationship is within our grasp. We just let the possibility of Him pass us by, not recognizing the precious treasure that it is, and never knowing how good it could be if we only knew… Boardroom of the Inner Man is an honest and candid review of my journey towards just that—a tangibly intimate relationship with my Creator. My prayer for you as you read these pages is that you will discover for yourself the brilliance, the magnificence, the everlasting loveliness of your Savior; that you will come to know His voice as well as you know your own; and that you will discover for yourself the absolute joy of learning to submit every area of your life to His Lordship and guidance.
