This is a book about essential tools for psycho-spiritual development. It is written by a psychotherapist with 40 years of practice in the mental health field and equal time engaged in spiritual study and practice. The focus includes key, common denominator understandings of how humans may heal and grow psychologically, emotionally, and experience the joy of spiritual unfoldment in a grounded, effective way.
Ancient spiritual teachings, Eastern & Western, were largely studies of human consciousness, just as modern psychology endeavors to be.
As I progressed in my studies and work in these areas, this realization grew. It's all the same business. In the helping professions, the service we provide to our patients and clients is as much spiritual as it is of psychological and emotional healing.
Much of Humanistic Psychology in the 1960's evolved in the 1970's into what we refer to as Transpersonal Psychology. This brand of psychology constitutes the blending of the spiritual with the psychological, and allows for a deeper and broader scope. Dr. Carl Jung knew this and studied extensively in both worlds. He is often regarded as the Father of Transpersonal Psychology.
The proceeding chapters reflect this blending with the intention of informing or reminding readers of some useful, healing connections, often overlooked. This book is intended for spiritual seekers, helping professionals, people engaged in 12-Step Recovery, and more.
As some of the chapters were written as articles for magazines and other publications, there is a measure of repetition of some key themes. My wish is that the reader will benefit in considering these themes from various perspectives and, thus, allow them to deepen.`
