Before he died, Orrin Halsey had disguised the bulldozer and kept it in a shed at the cabin. Sometime later on Orrin and Adele’s bodies were found dead in their car at the bottom of a cliff just outside Ouray on US 550. Under pressure from Ron, Daniel allows a well known Medical Examiner to go over the Halsey’s bodies. Their son Jake, as expected, died from heart failure; but his parents had been bludgeoned to death before their car even went over the cliff. This intensifies Daniel’s feeling that they are being watched; someone had gone to a lot of trouble to find out what Orrin had discovered in the mine. He can feel the noose closing in on them as he suspects that the group spying on them already has an agent within their trusted inner circle. Daniel wants to know more about this secret group and seeks help from Archie Carter, their head of security. Realizing that time is running out, Archie shows him pictures of some of the men he should be watching for. Tensions escalate when someone breaks into Bob’s place and later that day Daniel sees one of the men from Archie’s folder on a street corner in Durango. Daniel begins to wonder about his friend Archie as the gambler McFlane returns to claim his prize in the exciting sequel to Discovery.
