Che Guevara fought many battles in his life. The most enduring was the one he fought against asthma and this screenplay suggests that battle as a key influence in his life choices.
The original screenplay was commissioned in 1999. In 2001 it won through to the finals of a Channel 4 script competition but it did not go through to completion because it was deemed too difficult/expensive a film to be made. Subsequent great movies of Che have been made THE MOTORCYLE DIARIES and CHE PARTS ONE AND TWO.
Fighting For Breath is the only English language published screenplay of Che Guevara. It is also takes a more personal approach, and covers the whole life of Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, suggesting the importance of asthma to the man and the myth.
