"Women are nothing but trouble." And based on Sheriff Brennan's experiences, he would know. But trouble has a way of finding Miss Angela Reese. A husband for the sweet, albeit flighty, waitress would make his job a whole lot easier. And Angel thinks the sheriff is just the man for the job!

Angel broke eye contact and fought the pain of an unreleased sigh.
She entered the yard, Brennan didn’t follow. Her throat burned but there was nothing that could quench it, at least nothing Brennan was willing to offer. Well aware of his past, she shouldn’t have allowed her hopes to rise.
Her fingers trailed the top of the gate. Brennan’s hand caught hers and pulled the gate closed, drawing them together from either side.
He toyed with a wayward curl near the nape of her neck. “And don’t trust your heart to Cecil.”
Surprised, she inhaled sharply.
Brennan’s eyes darkened as his hands wrapped around her arms and tilted her forward. Angel willingly followed his lead, her lips aching for the contact. Like a searing brand his mouth touched hers, igniting a flame deep inside her heart.
