The Aim of this Study Guide, Red Dog, True Blue, Man, is to explore the status of being a man among men. The Pilbara breeds men that are alpha men, leaders and providers. Men in Red Dog, True Blue, strive to reach the goal of becoming a Man. Ironically a man is singular and is unique in his preferences and social position. Then a man becomes part of a plural as he grows from boyhood into the roles he chooses to fulfil as an adult man. The Men in Red Dog, True Blue inhabit a Lonely Land, and are Lonely Men. They all experience the Stubborn Land, and are Stubborn Men, knowing they need to be part of the Patriarchal Provision Solution they begin their journey by Comparing Scars. In context of the 1960s men were empowered by education to become equalizers: no matter which social strata they emerged from they could contribute to the pool of influence in significant seats of power. Mick in particular is challenged to become a man among men.
