When I was a little girl, I had a very special dream that inspired me to try to remember any subsequent dreams. At first I was struck by a mysterious feeling, but later I learned to see the dreams as useful creations. When I learned about surrealism, I realized that anyone can have creative thoughts during the dreaming phase of sleep. It's important to note that I don't believe in the psychodynamic theory and I don't look for any symbolic meanings. What I'm trying to do is to develop a healthy habit that promotes creativity and improves memory. In today' s world we need more healthy habits. My hope is that those of us who feel guilty about feeling somnolent will realize that sleeping eight hours is not a lazy activity; it is hard work and not just for physical health.
In a way my dream collection is like a small piece of my biography. However I compiled my dreams with illustrations in order to explain how I use my dreams to keep track of my memories, thoughts and daily activities. They can also be a tool to generate ideas that would not pop into the mind during wake hours. Although it can be hard to remember dreams at first, it becomes easier with practice, and it is worth it in my opinion. For example, I drew illustrations for this book using visuals from my dreams. With time it can become like a diary of your life.
