Light is a child unwanted and abused; eventually left at a local dump to die. But then she is found and dropped off at an overcrowded orphanage in Blantyre, Malawi where a Caucasian woman named Boey loves and nurtures her. It's there that Light heals and grows to wonder at her world. Contained within the four brick walls of a compound, the only way in and out is through a huge steel gate, padlocked and patrolled by guards. Light is oblivious to the dangers outside, but those dangers have become aware of the situation within.
