About the Book
Lite Malaysian Favourites shows one how easy it is to eat healthily. Some of the recipes in this book are dishes commonly found at hawker stalls or restaurants in Malaysia which have been given a twist to make them healthier. I have also estimated the nutrient content of the items in the recipes and compared them with their similarly portioned counterparts sold at hawker stalls and restaurants. These figures are derived from the Nutrient Composition of Malaysian Foods (Tee et al., 1997) and the Food Composition Guide Singapore (Health Promotion Board, 2003). When specific nutrient information (e.g. for dietary fibre) is not available from the Nutrient Composition of Malaysian Foods, references are made to the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 25. This unique recipe book is written by me as a dietician but I'm also a homemaker and a mom. I don't want you to get hung up with the figures and carry a calculator whenever you eat. That's not what food is about. Rather, I hope you will use it as a guide for making informed choices about what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat. I also hope it will inspire you to cook healthy meals at home for yourself and your loved ones.
