I first met Melia and Mike in August 2002 when my cousin and I stayed in their bed and breakfast. It was their last year in the bed and breakfast business. We were so impressed with their friendliness and hospitality. My cousin had spent a good part of her heyday in Skerries and the visit brought back wonderful memories for her. For me, the visit was similar to what Melia had first experienced. I fell in love with Skerries too. I decided to come back the following July and August and, with Melia"s help, I was able to rent a house nearby. She supplied me with extra towels, bed linens and some food items. There was always a welcome for me at their place and I enjoyed many lovely visits. I came back the following year and spent the same two months in another house overlooking the water almost opposite Cois Farraige. We became very good friends and shared a mutual affection. I loved listening to their stories of growing up in Ireland and how they met.
