Monique is a young woman who works as a secretary to support herself and her invalid mother. They have a loving relationship. Her father was dead. She and her mother lived in a rental home, and they budgeted to pay the bills. Then her mother’s doctor called Monique to his office and told her that her mother needed a serious operation, and it would be very expensive. The doctor was a good friend to both Monique and her mother. Monique was frantic about her mother and how she would pay for this very necessary operation. Monique’s boss Eric assured her he would pay for the operation and take care of her mother if Monique would marry him. He had been asking her for months to marry him. Monique’s mother did not know of this operation but could see that Monique was worried about something. She urged Monique to relax and spend the day skiing. So here she was skiing down a slope in an area off the usual skiers’ area. She was all alone. Then a curve came up, and as Monique turned the corner, she saw a big tree right in front of her. She crashed into the tree, and her life was changed forever.
