I met a girl at the gym who gave me a workout I'll never forget.

EXCERPT:

After my divorce I bought a new car and joined a gym. I know it’s a cliché, but I couldn’t help it. My wife got the car in the property settlement so I had to replace it. As for the gym, that was personal. It started as physical therapy, and became a habit.

Between work and taking care of my son, I needed to find a little time to myself. Joining a gym was a better choice than hanging out in a bar. The gym I joined had gone co-ed right before I signed up. That sounded fine with me. I was single again. I didn’t mind having a few women around at all. What I didn’t know was it hadn’t been a "men only" gym-it had been a "women only" gym. I was the first guy to join.

My first day on the weight machines, I had the place to myself. It was great. After a quick stretch I hit the machines. I learned my way around them quickly. It seemed weird that the machines were set light. But it was quiet and private and I was getting a good workout. Fifteen minutes later there were women everywhere. The aerobics class had just ended and the place was suddenly filled with breathless women staring at me.
It turned out that they’d advertised to get men to join, but none had signed up. They’d been "women only" for years and everybody knew it. Everybody knew except the guy who was in town for a six-week club gig.

Who was I to complain? Being surrounded by good-looking women in spandex is nothing to bitch about. It was great. The one problem was nobody talked to me.

Finally, I got to know one girl. I don’t think I would have if I hadn’t run in to her at the grocery store. By that, I mean I literally ran into her. She was coming around the end of the aisle while I was reading my shopping list. She had empty boxes piled up in front of her face. She couldn't see around them and I didn't see her coming, so we walked right into each other.

I helped her get the boxes into her car. I couldn’t remember her name but I knew her face. She looked so different at the gym I almost didn't recognize her. That body in spandex made it hard to look at her face. She was thin and fit with a fantastic body.
