In "Rhymes or Porcupines", a homeowner battles his possessed house and a shipwrecked crew tries desperately to survive. A couple has extreme anxiety at an Italian restaurant. A newlywed contemplates life before his child’s birth. A monkey terrorizes a family member and aliens hide behind a planet in our solar system!
Between spies getting duped in London and zombies on the streets of the big city anything is possible in the world of Peter A. Hirsch.
"Rhymes or Porcupines" is the title of one of the short stories depicting the fantastic sights, sounds and smells of the carnival through the eyes of children.
The author heard verses for years like "forty-nine days after running aground" or "a horse drawn carriage on a cobblestone street", or
"lying on a lawn so green, I fell asleep and had a dream." This continued for years and he transcribed and expounded upon them until he had composed over one hundred forty five rhyming stories and poems. He added illustrations and photographs to enhance the work and included fifty-five of the best.
Hirsch uses his sense of humor, insight, sentimentality and adventurous side, in an easy reading format filled with unusual escapades, silly yarns, gushy verses and soul searching questions entertaining the reader from start to finish.
