Summary of The Shack by William P. Young
Mackenzie Allen Phillips, who is known to his close friends and family as “Mack”, is not a typical man, nor has he had typical experiences. Mack’s story begins on a cold day, with snow and ice decorating the world outside. As he walks down his driveway toward the mailbox, he notices the treacherous ice already making the driveway slick. In the mailbox sits only one envelope with his name written across the front. There’s no stamp or address, just Mack’s name. Curiously, Mack tears open the envelope and reads a short note asking him to meet someone at the shack. The note is signed “Papa”. Slightly flustered and caught off guard, Mack tries to forget the note and heads back up the driveway, but he slips and falls to his back, hitting his head against the ice. Pulling himself up, Mack makes it back safely inside his house, calls his wife to tell her to stay put, and does his best to patch himself up, trying to forget the strange note sitting in his home office. The note only brings up The Great Sadness.
