Nottinghamshire, 1986. Two brutal murders are discovered on the same day at different ends of the county. Both the victims are men and both have been mutilated and tortured before having their throats cut and being left to bleed to death. An identical series of letters and numbers has been daubed on the walls at both scenes using the victims own blood. Detective Chief Inspector Danny Flint is now in charge of the newly formed Major Crime Investigation Unit and his fledgling team are tasked with finding the killer. After discovering the meaning of the code left at the murder scenes, Flint and his team realise they are in a race against time before the cold blooded killer strikes again. As the investigation reveals the killers motive, the reason for the slaughter becomes apparent and the detectives realise that unless they can stop the killer one of their own is in mortal danger of becoming the final victim.
