CAN A TESTIMONY CHANGE A SYSTEM?

THE THESIS follows one woman’s journey through the sordid depths of the higher learning industry in San Antonio. As a student at the University of Texas in San Antonio (UTSA), Summer Carrillo experienced discrimination first-hand when she was kicked out of her master’s program only two classes from graduation. Left without recourse, she conducted a 6-year investigation that uncovered a pattern of discrimination by UTSA affecting hundreds of students, faculty and staff over decades. Racial discrimination is still a major force despite laws and movements because many mouths keep quiet, leaving evil to triumph against good men and women who do nothing. The author suffered backlash, but bravely raised her voice—despite attempts to silence her. This extraordinary story is built on personal experiences of victims who have been discriminated against; it is also a case study of contemporary American society. THE THESIS explores how San Antonio’s flawed system of higher education corrupts its employees as it cripples its students.
