Cyril Arthur Edward Justice Waggoner Ranger Gull (1876-1923) was an English journalist and writer who used the pen name Guy Thorne.  After studying at Oxford, he wrote for a number of newspapers, including the Daily Mail and the Daily Express.  He began publishing novels in 1900 and continued regularly until his death in 1923.  WHEN IT WAS DARK was by far his best selling work, selling more than a half-million copies.
