Wiliiam J. "Wild Bill" Lovett was an Irish gangster whose pursuit of Al Capone led to Scarface exiting New York City for Chicago. A deal was worked out by Chicago mobster Johnny Torrio to move Capone after Wild Bill pursued him for killing an underling. Bill Lovett was chief of the White Hand Gang, a notorious crime organization in Brooklyn's Red Hook section. A psychopath Bill once shot a man he was playing cards with. The two men had agreed that the winner of the card game would lead the White Hand Gang, Bill lost but refused to admit defeat and lose his authority.
