A poor American Indian was living, with his wife and children, in a beautiful part of the country. He was not only poor, but he had the misfortune to be inexpert in procuring food for his family, and his children were all too young to give him assistance. When Wunzh, his eldest son, was ready to enter the rights of passge from child to adulthood, he undertook to clear his heart of every evil thought, and to think of nothing that was not good, and beautiful, and kindly Wunzh entered the ritual fast and on the third day became weak and faint.
