Eczema originated from a Greek word which means to boil over or to bubble. It is characterized by itchy dry red rashes usually found on the neck, face, ankles, knees, wrists and groin. Infants are more likely to have this than adults because of their sensitive skin. Others outgrow it when they turn ten but for the rest who cannot get rid of it, it remains a lifelong condition. Having eczema is very uncomfortable because it causes terrible itching however it is neither dangerous nor contagious. An eczematous skin has little amount of cathelicidin.
