Charles G. Leland was an American scholar, humorist, essayist and folklorist. In accordance with journalist’s working, Charles G. Leland travelled extensively and became interested in folklore and folk linguistics. During his travels he lived and studied with the Algonquin Indians for months at the same time recording their stories, myths and legends. “How The Toad And Porcupine Lost Their Noses” is a legend of Natives of Maine and Atlantic Canada. In the centre of narration is the legendary figure of the Wabanaki, the chief of Indian people named Glooskap. Primarily known as the Creator, he was a warrior against evil and the possessor of magical powers. In this tale the action happens in an old time and represents the start of Glooskap and his brother life way.
