Edwin Sidney Hartland (1848–1927) was a british author specialized on folklore. He is known for tales anthologies and collection, works on mythology, ethnology and anthropology. He belived in scientific picture of beliefs and traditions, that could be composed through through the gathering end exploring folklore.
The Adventures of Cherry of Zennor is a folk tale collected by Edwin Hartland. The story follows Cherry, a daughter of poor, yet happy and healthy family living in a remote hut. She was quite unlike the rest of her kin – always full of energy and tends to misbehave. And because of it she was growing disconnected as the time was passing by. So one day she saw one of her friends in a very nice dress that she drew a bead on the same instant. Consumed by desire to have the same dress, she packed her things and left to seek her fortune in a nearby town.
