Charles Montgomery Skinner was an American writer, editor, dramatic and art critic, mostly known as a collector and rewriter of North American folklore.
“The Owl Tree” is a mysterious short story, entered in the collection “Myth and legend of our own land”. The narration is about Rev. Charles Sharply, who is  going to Waterborough to preach and he has collected several hundreds dollars to help build a church in the village. But several days after it transpires that he has never appeared in Waterborough, and, perhaps, left the State with the dollars in his saddlebags. But later the readers will know that Charles Sharply was killed...
